It is critical that contractors secure all government data
All government contractors must demonstrate “adequate security” according to NIST 800-171. This means building and maintaining incident policies and having procedures in place that meet those requirements. The Department of Defense will even audit a contractor to determine if they have an adequate system security plan and documented plan of action. For smaller businesses that rely on government contracts, achieving NIST compliance using internal resources can be expensive and time-consuming.
